Canine Nutrition & Weight Management

Maintaining a healthy weight plays a vital role in your dog’s long-term comfort, mobility, and overall wellbeing. Excess weight places additional strain on joints, muscles, the heart and respiratory system, and can significantly impact quality of life — particularly for dogs already managing orthopaedic conditions or recovering from injury.

As a qualified canine nutritionist, I offer tailored nutrition and weight-management support designed to be realistic, sustainable, and specific to your dog — not generic feeding advice.

Whether your dog needs help safely losing weight, maintaining a healthy condition, or adapting their diet alongside medical or mobility needs, I can support you every step of the way.

What I Can Help With

  • Individualised weight-loss plans based on your dog’s age, breed, activity level, health status and lifestyle

  • Nutritional support for dogs with orthopaedic issues, arthritis, or reduced mobility

  • Adjusting diets for dogs undergoing hydrotherapy, physiotherapy or rehabilitation

  • Guidance on commercial diets, home-prepared feeding, treats and calorie control

  • Ongoing accountability and plan adjustments to keep progress safe and steady

All plans are designed to support slow, healthy fat loss while preserving muscle mass, helping your dog move more comfortably and feel better day-to-day.

Benefits of Achieving a Healthy Weight

Even modest weight loss can make a significant difference. Benefits may include:

  • Reduced strain on joints and improved mobility

  • Increased stamina and willingness to exercise

  • Improved breathing and cardiovascular health

  • Better tolerance of rehabilitation and hydrotherapy sessions

  • Reduced risk of obesity-related conditions

  • Improved comfort, confidence and quality of life

For many dogs, weight management is one of the most impactful changes we can make to support long-term health.

How the Process Works

  1. Initial Nutrition & Weight Assessment
You’ll complete a short questionnaire covering your dog’s diet, current weight, routine, medical history and goals. From this, I’ll create a personalised nutrition and weight-management plan tailored specifically to your dog. Can be completed in person or online.

  2. Personalised Plan
You’ll receive clear feeding guidance, calorie targets, treat allowances, and practical advice that fits into everyday life.

  3. Follow-Up Support
We will follow-up, weigh and complete measurements every 2 weeks. Follow-ups allow us to review progress, make adjustments, and ensure weight loss remains safe and sustainable.

This service can be booked as a stand-alone consultation or alongside hydrotherapy support.

Vet Consent

Each nutrition program is tailored to the individual dog, taking into account their physical condition, breed, behaviour, and age. To ensure the safety and suitability of treatment, we are required to contact your registered veterinarian before the first session to obtain a brief medical history and confirm that your dog is fit for nutrition support.
